Catching up on crime HE Nuremberg court which tried and sentenced scores of nazi war criminals, also tried and sentenced to death (in absentia) Herr Adolph Eichmann, the mur- derer of millions of Jewish, Slavic and other peoples. Eichmann, together with many other nazi killers, fled the coun- try, thus escaping his just deserts. That was fourteen years ago. Many of Hitler’s top butchers have “oot away” since, aided and abet- ted by U.S. and British imperial- ism, which require the services of these professional killers in their NATO “defence” conspiracies for war. Now, it appears, Israeli agents, tipped off on Eichmann’s where- abouts in Argentina, have taken him to Israel where he is now in close custody. Such a procedure is without doubt a violation of Argentina’s sovereign status. Were such ac- tions to be approved by law, in- ternational or other, the sovereign rights of nations would no longer exist. Neither would the legal sanctity of the individual. That, however, is not the im- portant point at the moment. The prime question is that a convicted nazi mass killer is in custody, held by .a Jewish state which saw six million Jewish people, the aged and the babes in arms, perish under Eichmann’s orders. It could be argued that since Adolph Eichmann was tried, con- victed, and sentenced to death for his crimes against humanity by the international tribunal of Nur- emberg, that no other trial is re- quired; only the carrying out of the just sentence imposed. If a second trial is needed to dispose of this nazi carrion, it is eminently proper that is should be staged in Israel, but under the aegis of an international rather than an Israeli court. As_ the Israeli Communist Party declares: Let the trial reveal before the whole world the whole truth of the horrors and catastrophe of the ex- termination of the Jews—let not a single thing be hidden.” Pacific Tribune Editor —. Phone MUtual 5-5288 Quite naturally any and all sug- gestions of a public trial for butcher Eichmann in Israel is making the West German Aden- auer government and their U.S. coldwar backers in Washington extremely jittery. On the stand a brutal murderer of helpless peo- ple, now turned abject coward, might “sing”; that is, he might implicate in his million-fold crimes many of his old nazi colleagues, now top officials in the Adenauer state and military machine. This thought of Eichmann “squealing” on the stand is also disturbing Washington’s “forgive- and-forget” coldwar circles who regard the ex-Hitlerite militarists of West Germany as their most- valued NATO “ally” in their war conspiracies against the Soviet Union. Three things which an inter- national court on the soil of Israel sitting in judgment on butcher Eichmann will accomplish; rid the earth of a monstrous sub-human, expose the relationships between the old and new swastika carriers and their imperialist promoters; and, strike a mighty blow for international understanding and peace. EDITORIAL PAGE — ‘Plan for HIS absurdity known as “civil” defence” moves from ne fiasco to another. After pouring countless thousands of the tax- payers’ dollars down the CD prop- aganda and equipment drain, the Diefenbaker government belatedly discovers that its “evacuation” schemes were totally unworkable. Any school child could have told them that long ago. A casual look during any normal rush hour in any major Canadian city made that much crystal clear. But cold- war governments can never see what they don’t want to see, un- less compelled to by the people. With its “evacuation” comedy now discarded and expensive CD motor transport equipment stash- ed away under bridges to rust and rot, Dief’s CD boys have come up with another bright idea, a “plan for survival’; that of urging cit- izens to build their own H-bomb shelters in their own backyard. A modest cosy burrow with very tight accommodation for a small family to be nuclear barbecued to- gether can be built for “only $300.00.” Of course, for the more expensive tastes ten times that survival ? amount can be sunk in this CD backyard enterprise. A number of important points are omitted in this CD barbecue- yourself plan. No mention of where the other half of the popu- lation who don’t own backyards are to burrow. Nothing on where B.C.’s 100,000 jobless (or Can- ada’s one million) are to get the “modest $300” to build with, to say nothing of where next week’s rent and groceries are to come from. Nor is any mention made of the fact that the citizen who does build one of these eosy mausoleums if his backyard, will promptly find his already sky-high taxes boosted still higher. CD’s “plan for survival” misses the one and only chance for sur- vival;. the utilization of the na- tion’s resources and energy for disarmament and peace. The Japanese people have given a mag- nificent example of how this can be done;. by unity and determina- tion to stop their nuclear war- makers. To convince Dief, by 2 similar unity, the fight for peace instead of backyard shelters, is the only way to survival. Tom McEwen “ HEN things are breaking W sonst for nuclear war sales- man and the common people let it be known in no uncertain terms that they don’t want such char- acters around, the old cry about “law and order,” the “rule of law” and so forth, is raised to high heaven. This yowl about the “rule of law’ has been particularly noisy since the Japanese people closed the door on Eisenhower. Its prime purpose is to convey the phoney idea that all the spokesmen, sales- men, janitors and other cadgers of “free world’ merchandise are lily-white saints, with nothing on their minds save the “salvation” of their fellowmen. The others of course, are devils incarnate, “red” ones at that, with “no respect for law’ and always intent upon ‘“‘violence’” of some sort or other. Just take a look at some of the most raucous exponents of ‘the rule of law’ who have done a lot of yodelling on the theme during past weeks. The blue ribbon of course must go to the big boys of the Pentagon who wrote Ike’s speeches and do his press and propaganda work. It obviously never entered their cold- war minds that the Japanese (of all peoples), would probably not be so amenable as Diefenbaker to hav- ing U.S. nuclear bases in their country. (And after all, despite U.S. military occupation, the Japanese people still believe Japan is their country . Thus, when the Japanese people gave Ike’s “‘visit” the grand detour, without saying they where “sorry for the inconvenience,” the blue ribbon lads in the Pentagon gave out with the old imperialist mating call: “‘A red conspiracy of vio- lence,” a menace to “‘the rule of law,’ and so on ad infinitum. Syngman Rhee, another U.S.- tutored ‘democrat’ (now a landed immigrant) was another great ex- ponent of the “rule of law,” His methods were unique, but typical. Rhee imprisoned, murdered, plun- dered, tortured and persecuted his people for a decade and when they finally booted him out (despite his U.S. backing) he topped. off his career in the ‘‘rule of law” by absconding with some $10-million dollars of his nation’s treasury. Chiang Kia-shek, whom Ike is presently visiting on his Asian “goodwill - with - nuclear - trim- mings” junket, is also another sturdy alumni of the U.S. school on ‘the rule of law.’ Chiang’s record in pillage, murder, rack- upon his own people, puts him high fluctuations or pre-election tory brity. or other, they are invariably listed as ‘“‘an orderly but wildly turn out to send some merchant of death or coldwar politician pack- ing, they are catalogued as “a - mob,” with no respect for “the rule of law and order.” nowadays on peace, that is a ‘tirade,’ or better still, a ‘‘har- rangue.”’ through something someone else wrote, or “Man Friday” Dief. un- rolls three yards of demagogic bladerdash on the same_ topic, these are listed as ‘constructive A great weapon, language. eteering, black-marketing and war up in the ranks of those who find the “rule of law” a handy cover-up for their crimes. Just a few days ago we read of a spiel by South Africa’s ‘‘apar- theid” premier, Hendrick Ver- woerd. This modern “Simon Le- gree” had much to say about the “superiority” of the white race as the custodians of “the rule of law and order,’ while his police-state machine was writing it on the backs of peaceful African peoples with. dum-dum bullets. Semantics, like stock market promises, are highly interchang- able.
