Speed the drive The PT has received many favorable comments from our readers for last week’s special anniversary issue, We are a little proud of it ourselves, al- though we know there are some shortcomings and omissions in the issue, We feel it gives our readers an insight into the road our press Mr. and Mrs. Ed Skeeles, well known and respected community workers of Cedar, Vancouver Island, shown above, celebrated three anniversaries on April 24: their 35th wedding anni- versary, the 30th anniversary of the progressive labor press, and 30 years uninterrupted support for the labor press. On the first day of the press drive Ed Skeeles became an honor press builder, turning in $100. Every Saturday on the streets of Nanaimo, Ed and Bob Clerihue will be seen sell- ing the PT. The PT extends congratula- tions and thanks to Mr. and Mrs. Skeeles. has travelled over three gener- ations, and it is an historic document which many will want to keep as a souvenir and record of the history of our press, Planning and preparation for the 20 page paper began about four months ago, With our small staff it was a major undertaking which had to be done while pro- ducing the regular weekly paper, but it was a labor of love, Many people outside our regular staff contributed time, effort, money and talent to make the issue possible, To all of them the editorial board expresses its thanks, The PT had to go to consid- erable expense to produce the special issue — but we thought it was worth it. We entered the present drive with a sub- stantial debt hanging over the paper, but we were certain that the special issue would spur the financial campaign and make it possible to enter the fourth decade of publication of our press in a sounder financial position.
