A classification system was developed for the inventory in order to analyze zhe distribution of
facilities by the client group served.

Table 3 shows the distribution of licensed facilities by type.

* Facilities for the mentally disabled represent the largest share (41.80%) of the total
number of licensed facilities in the GVRD, but the second largest share (22.71%) of the
total number of beds.

Facilities for the mentelly ill represent ‘the second largest share (21.58%) of licensed
facilities, bui the greatest number of beds (27.95%).

Combined, facilities for both mentally disabled and mentally ill persons account for
63.39 % of the region's licensed group home facilities and 50.67% of the region's group
home beds. a ;

The inventory reveals a geographic concentration of certain types of licensed group homes. For
example, Vancouver has: 54% of all licensed facilities and 62% of all beds for the physically
disabled; 33% of all licensed facilities and 42% of all beds for people with mental illness.

' Conversely, 21% of all “menzzlly disabled" facilities and 19% of the beds are located in
Bumaby, while 50% of all cozz/corrections facilities and 28% of all beds ere located in the
District of North Vancouver.
