Mayor and Council DATE: October 17, : Alderman E.W. Mabbett Further to Planning and Zoning Committee proposal to go to M-3 Zoning in triangle known as Huntingdon Rubber Ltd, I believe this is the only logical way to go as long as we keep to the proposed type of uses. The area is definitely not suited for residential use, However, there are several concerns of the citizens in the area and a number that I have been concerned with for a number of years. The Davies—Hastings Streets are continually used by trucks and cars as a bypass around traffic lights at the corner of Lougheed and Barnet Highway junction. The senior citizens are also concerned as they are locked in and will be more so as the Lougheed Highway is reconstructed as they find it difficult getting safely over town. We have closed the east end of Gordon Avenue off and all traffic has to reroute to Davies Street to exit or enter residential area. We are planning a small play- ground on Fox Street; at present the only access is from Davies Street forcing all children to go south to Davies, which is very busy, in order that they can get to the playground, I feel we must look at a number of ways to solve the problems that exist at present and which will be more acute as we develop the playground and also when the proposed M-3 area develops. I would suggest that Council immediately look at the following possibilities: 1. Consider creating Davies-Hastings as a no truck route, only local deliveries. 2. Consider a sidewalk or suitable path for pedestrians on Davies and Hastings. 3. Consider an access path (5' wide) from west end of Gordon Avenue through to Fox Street for playground use. 4. Consider suitable walkway from area to City Centre, possibly, as residents have requested, a footbridge, or a footbridge on the north side of C.P.R. bridge structure, or av least for the present a footpath on the west side of Huntingdon property properly fenced and a proper crossover south over the C.P.R. tracks to Kingsway Avenue. 5. Consider an immediate start this winter in conjunction with the C.P.R. and Hunting- don Rubber Ltd., the planting of suitable trees along the total length of Davies Avenue from Hastings Street to Lougheed Highway for beautification and noise elimination, Respectfully submitted, Alderman E.W.
