There are hundreds of non-profit societies throughout Canada. Those €hat have been truly concerned about the “aged" and others in our country have sponsored, developed and are operating thousands of warious types of accomodations and facilities. fhe governments have encouraged the participants of community vclunteers and groups to help their fellow citizens on a local and personal relationship. . , cy These hundreds of volunteer groups have made positive contributions throughout Canada, they have done so on a local level and therefore yemain responsive and responsible to their local communities. Tf Mrs. Angus and her group are interested and concerned regarding the "aged" or. any other groups in our community, they should volunteer and work within the present governmental structure to accomplish their positive goals. Our Society takes strong objections to presumpticus and negative eriticism of our "Hawthorne Lodge" facilities. A facility that has hot as yet opened, or has not as yet even been totally completed. This criticism is presumptious, because it assumes as facts our policies, rates, our admissions, type of facilities, personal care services to be offered. j The "Hawthorne Lodge” is not yet open. The building is not yet completed. Final policies have not yet been totally completed. When the "Hawthorne Lodge” has been opened and in operation for a yjumber of months, when our staff has been fully trained, when our policies have been tried, tested and in operation, we will be glad to receive any and all positive creative and productive criticisms. Criticisms that will assist us and the residents we are trying to serve. Rather than critism that serves no purpose other than to hinder our aocomplishments. ; A number of years ago the need for a “Hawthorne type Lodge" was recognized. Public advertisements were placed in our area and throughout the ‘greater Vancouver area for "proposals." Similar requests for "proposals" were advertised by the government of British Columbia ;for their own developments.
