Whether they had traveled here from points far away, such as Gibsons, Whistler, Qualicum and Vernon (thanks again, Bob), or from points a little closer, they came with a single purpose, to throw as many beautiful bowls as possible, in the allotted hour and a half. And beautiful they are, all 547 of them. The Shadbolt Centre technicians, Jay MacLennan and Linda Doherty, glazed and fired these bowls, which were used for the Burnaby Empty Bowls Gala Fundraising Event held here at the Shadbolt on Saturday, April 23rd. Tickets included one of these unique handcrafted bowls, containing a light meal prepared by Burnaby’s Pear Tree Restaurant. The evening also involved live entertainment and a silent auction. Money raised at this event will go towards programs which aim to educate and nour- ish those children in need throughout Burnaby. On behalf of Burnaby’s Food First Committee, The City of Burnaby’s Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services Division and the staff at the Shadbolt Centre for the Arts, | would like to thank the following participating potters: Wendy Berry, Robert Bush, Sarah Coote, Darrel Hancock, Cathi Jefferson, Bob Kingsmill, Keith Lehman, David Lloyd, Vincent Massey, D’Arcy Margesson, Aaron Nelson and Charmian Nimmo. It was an honour for us : é to have the opportunity to work with you all and tobe involved in such a worthwhile effort. David Lloyd topped his previous record by creating 92 bowls. It was an amazing thing to see, bowls stretching across the full length of two of the Shadbolt Centre's dance studios, and to witness the co-operative team- work displayed by the potters and their assistants. The competition was friendly and the entire event was a prime example of artists generously donat- ing their time and talent and using their creativity to benefit those in need. éZ Sharon Reay —_— . bt eee 2 i en , Pee ens at e Production!
