COUNC MEMORANDUM — MAR 24 1980 Mayor and Council March 21st, 1980. L.D. Pollock, City Administrator Management Seminar From time to time the opportunity arises to send one of our employees to a management seminar. It bas been some years since anyone has attended, the last one was Mr. Boileau who attended the Portland school which caters to Fire Department personnel. We have received a brochure recently from the American Public Works Association which is holding a seminar on the 12th to 16th of May in Denver Colorado. The program for the five days is attached and you will see that it is totally a management orientated but it has some sessions related to Public Works and contract management. In total the seminar is very comprehensive and would be a asset to any of the Senior Staff in the Enginecring Department. ° The Seminar cost is $350.00 for the week plus hotel and other expenses, We don't have a policy covering staff participation in these Seminars and they are generally dealt with on an individual basis. We actually de very little of this type of training compared to other Municipalities and I think we should provide for some of this type of training through our budget each year. Fred Peters would be interested in attending this Seminar and it would be directly in his line of work. I would like Council to consider authorizing his attendance and paying the related expenses. a ee " L.D. Pollock, City Administrator.
