COU APR 17 19 Mayor and Council 13th, 1978 L.D. Pollock City Administrator l. Purchase of Vehicles Attached is a memo from the Public Works Superintendent in connection with the purchase of a commercial step-van for the Water Department. You will note that the Superintendent has recommended the purchase of a vehicle from Westminster Motors that is presently in stock and therefore could be delivered immediately. This immediate delivery would save us a net amount of approximately $1493. in rental charges that are presently being incurred. I would concur with Mr. Ulmer's recommendation on the purchase of this unit and would ask Council's ccnsideration of this recommendation. 2. Building Inspectors' Conference The Chief Building Inspector has received notification that the annual Building Inspectors’ Association Conference will be held in Vernon, May 3rd to 5th, 1978. Nick Chernoff generally attends this Conference and I would recommend that he be permitted te attend and that his expenses be paid. Registration is $60. and the norm.l per diem expenses would apply. In addition to the foregoing, there is an excellent Seminar being sponsored by the University of British Columbia dealing vith the Structural Uses of Wocd, including design methods, testing, temperacure and moisture effects, etc. This is an educational Seminar and not a Conference as such, but a series of lectures by professionals from Canada, the United States, England and Germany. Dates are May 15th to 18th, inclusive. I feel that this would be of considerable assistance to Nick in his job and would recommend that Council approve Nick taking time off to “attend this Seminar and would suggest we pay the Registration Fee of $82. The only other expense may be lunches as Nick would commute to and from the University daily. . nen —— ‘L.D. Pollock
