AG - The Terrace Standard, Wednesday, July 12, 2000 Letters to the editor Gay pride day would taint the city Dear Sir: This is in response to ‘the article “Locais Back Gay Pride Day Request,” published July 5. The word. “locals” seems to imply the whole town is backing this gay pride day request. How did you possibly reach that conclusion? , I wonder how’ many people in town were actu- ally asked if they suppor- ted this. thing or not. J. was. not asked, and I certainly would not back a gay pride day in Terrace. I have heard people talking about Terrace asa good place to raise a fami- ly. By allowing smut like a gay and lesbian pride day, it would: severely taint Terrace’s image as being a “family-based” commun- ity. Think about it. I am not a pay or les- bian basher. | would never even think about harming anyone in any way if they were to come out and tell me that they are gay or lesbian. As a Christian, I do not approve of that lifestyle, but I will in no way beat anyone over the head with a baseball bat. God says in Leviticus 18:22 that to partake in a same-sex re- lationship is an abomina- tion, and therefore it is evil and sinful. However, Gad also says in Romans 12:21, “Be not overcome cf evil, but overcome evil with good.” Since I am to overcome evil with good, there is no way | am going to attack anyone for their lifestyle choice. It is wrong, and you can accuse me of being bashful for that, but pays and lesbians will have to answer to God for the way they have lived their lives in the end. The gay and lesbian lifestyle is in no way nor- mal. Jesus said in Matthew - 19:45, “And he answered “and said unto them, Have ye not read, that he which made them at the begin- ning made them male and female, and said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh?” [t was ordained by God that man should marry a woman. Not that a man should marry a man or a woman marry a woman. To do so is to pervert God’s divine institution of the fa- mily. 1 believe that one rea- son why there are so many social and economic pro- blems in our country is be- cause of the sin in the land. Romans 1:27 says “And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and re- ceiving in themselves that recompense of their error which was meet.” The “recompense of their error” can be classi- fied as the results of sin. Examples of that can be scen tight here in Canada and around the world, AIDS is skyrocketing, eco- nomies are crumbling, good sound moral values are being thrown out the window, and crime rates are up. God does not re- ward sin with blessings, that is for sure. The judgment of God is on our land for creating more tolerance for that which He called an “abomination”. We are at the point in North America =n ee th fm Um of being comparable to ,sodom and Gomorrah in Genesis 19, God destroyed those two cities for the very same thing that is going on in North America ‘today: increase .in sodomy. . There is hope, however. 2 Peter 3:9 says that God is not willing that any should perish, but that all should come unto repen- tance. God is very longsuf- fering, but He can't put up with sin forever. Sin has to be judged. | do. believe that those caught up in the gay and-lesbian lifestyle can come.to know God. | But it requires quitting that lifestyle, rebuking it as sin, and trusting God. Romans 10:13 says “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” That means anyone, Murderers, gays, lesbians, etc. No matter what sort of sin you've committed, you can be forgiven, God is waiting for you to call on His name and “ask forgiveness for your sins,” I must commend -Coun- cillor’ Val) George for standing up and admitting that he cannot support something that is “morally and socially reprehens- ible”. on | hope and pray that our cily council: will. not sup- Pott a gay and lesbian pride day in our commun- ity. It is not something that is needed here or any- where else for that matter. E.N. Roy, Terrace, B.C. Bill said it best Dear Sir: I’ve always considered Mighty Moe a role mode] for eccentrics. The slings and arrows of outrageous fortune, combined with a “tidy bowel” mentality, have conspired to hide people like Mighty Moe (and ‘others living below the poverty line) from the pub- lic eye by seeking to silence another person of great colour and character. © William Shakespeare put it. best through the character of Lady MacDuff in his play, Macbeth: “7 have done no harm, But 1] remember now I am in this earthly world, where to do harm is often laud-. able, to do good sometime accounted dangerous folly.” - Act IV at end Scene II.
