Youth soccer playoffs end tomorrow YOUTH SOCCER action is both heating up and cooling down as the playoffs come to a close. The Under 19 girls finals are set to go tomorrow night, as are the Under 12 boys and the Under 14 boys. The Under 16 boys finished up last night, and the Under 12 gicls and the Under 14 girls were done on Monday. Un- fortunately, scores weren’t available at press time, so laok for the results in an upcoming Standard. Meanwhile, the Under Nine and Under 10 tournaments were held two weckends ago. Six teams from each division took part in the 10-game events, The Under 10 finals were a nail-biter as Shoppers Drug Mari and Warner Bandstra were neck and neck right up to the last. In the end, Shoppers came through with a 2-1 vic- tory, Finally, the Under Nine championships finished like a Rocky movie. Inland Kenworth, who finished in the basement of league-play, got the underdog of the year award by making it all the way to the finals. There, just like in the original Rocky, they were defeated, this time 5-0 by Westel who took the championships. **One of the really great things about these tournaments is that anything can happen,’? says Paul McNicholls of Terrace Youth Soccer. ‘It’s a fresh start for each team,’ Men’s soccer gears up for championships PLAYERS IN the Men’s Soccer League are chomping at the bit waiting for championship, play to begin this weekend. Round Robin play finished up on Sunday and the semi- finals and finals are set to go this Saturday. The Super BM finished first in regular season play, with a record of 16 wins, one loss and four ties. But Forestry was hot on their heels for the last half of the season and the league-play tile was on the line in the last game of the season. Forestry needed a win to take the title, while the Super BM could win with just a tie. It was a close, physical game with both teams having good chances to score. When Andrew Brown of the Super BM was ejected from the game, it looked like Forestry might get the upper hand. However, playing with just 10 players, the Super BM managed to take the lead with a goal by Dimitri Filtziakis in the second half. But Forestry continued to press and they were rewarded late in the game with a goal by Neil Hailey. Super BM hung on to the tie, however, and took the Season Championships. The playoff semi-finals take place at 10 a.m. Saturday in Thomabill, with the consolation finals at 2 p.m. and the championships following at 4 p.m..
