B6 - The Terrace Standard, Wednesday, March 29, 1995 Spring brings friendly visitors YVONNE MOEN I GUESS il’s time for everyone to be getting ready for visitors coming to Terrace. Warm weather visits have al- ready started, as I discovered a few weeks ago while walking downtown, one bright sunny moming. T stopped to chat wilh a lady who was standing and admiring the beautiful mountains that sur- round us. As we talked, she said she had lived in Terrace when she was four, OF course I became in- terested and she told me her name was Laverne Armstrong. Laverne and her husband Bob were on their way home to Whitehorse when they decided to stop in and have a look around, Asit so happens, Laverne is the daughter of Pastor Linney. Pastor Linney was the first pastor for the Pentecostal Assembly in Terrace -the family came to Terrace in 1935, Of course, Pastor Linney is now deceased, In Terrace the Pentecostal As- sembly first held services in the old orange hall, later renting from O.T, Sundal at 4613 Lakelse Ave., at the Hub location, In the fall of 1941 the Pentecos- lal Assembly started building at 4615 Lakelse Ave., now the Third Ave. Shoes location, On Thanksgiving weekend in 1952 the Pentecostal Assembly moved to the Terrace Standard location at 4641 Lazefle Avenue. The Assembly's present location is at 3511 Eby St, and they have been there since 1979, On this Thanksgiving weekend in 1995, the Terrace Pentecostal Assembly will be holding its 60th anniversary in Terrace. This year will also be a special anniversary for a few people belonging to the Pentecostal As- sembly in Terrace.
