If any com- bination of these symptoms lasts more than a few weeks it is advisable to contact your doctor or other helping person, If you or someone you know is seriously depressed, what kind of help is available? First, you may be able to help yourself more than you realize. Some suggestions are: * make a list of specific things you want to do today, and check them off as you do them, * give yourself credit for your. ‘accomplishments, no matter how small they seem. * get outside every day, and try to get some form of physical . exercise. * do something for yourself every day, whether it be talking: ‘to friends,’ listening to your favourite music, or having a hot bath, Secondly, see you doctor for a medical checkup. Perhaps there is a physical explanation for your symptoms. While Ings with the docter and tell him/her about any major ~ changes or stresses in your life. The doctor may refer you for counselling (or you may refer yourself) and sometimes may prescribe an anti-depressant medication.
