The Heart and Stroke Foundation was the winner Sept. 7 at the Skeena Valley Golf and Country Club as 104 golfers took part in the second annual tournament to raise money for that cause. The team of Rigler, Brown, Kerbrat, Ross, Mooney and Macdonald set a course record and the foundation came out $2,000 richer. | Terrace Review ——- Wednesday, September 18, 1991 23 Golf for heart raises $2,000 _ The second annual Heart and Stroke golf tournament attracted 104 golfers to the Skeena Valley Club on Sept. 7, and among them iZ they raised about $2,000 for this important charity. _ The winning team of Jim Rigler, Bud Brown,. Mike Kerbrat, John Ross, Dwight Mooney and Frank Macdonald set a course record for a scramble-type tourncy when they posted a score of seven under par. Although every golfer got a prize, perhaps the most cherished was accepted by Heart Fund rep. Betty Campbell for her team’s high gross score of plus four. Betty has a team of Swanson, Teoli, Goodwin, Podbisky and Haines. The Central Mountain air flight prize for closest-to-the-pin on number two hole went to Jim Riding. Closest-to-pin. prize on number eight went to Ross Smith and Leslie Campbell.. Jim Holland won long drive on number nine for men while Linda Juba did likewise. for women. Shortest drive honours on one went to Bub Teoli and Nancy Clark. It’s doubtful if anyone lost a ball as they played in groups of 12 with all six team members playing the best ball throughout the round. The Big Brothers’ and Sisters’ tourney on the 8th attracted about 30 golfers. They wound up making about $375 for their group plus a $100 door prize donated back to Big Brothers by Edith Gieselman after she won it in a draw at the end. Division finals end soccer season. Terrace Youth Soccer wound up its season on the weekend with finals in ‘several divisions. The four-team girls’ section wound up on Sept. 6 to enable them to send teams to a Prince George House league tournament this past week- end. _Here’s how cach division fin- ished up in their double-knockout finals. _ Girls’ division In their opening two games on Sept: 3, Pizza Hut..edged Tide Lake 4-3 and Crampton shaded Richards 2-1, Then on the ’A’ side semi-final, Crampton defeated Pizza Hut 2-1. This put Crampton in the final. On 'B’ side, Tide Lake elimi- nated Richards 4-3, but then ran into Pizza Hut, who benched Tide Lake 6-4. In the ’A’-’B’ final, Crampton emerged as champions on a 2-0 shutout of Pizza Hut. Under-10 division They played 14 games in the eight-team, under-10 division with Co-op coming through the back door to clinch the title. In the opening round, Skeena Sawmills nipped AGK 3-2, the Co-op shaded Skeena Cellulose 5-4, Shoppers Drugs took Carlyle Shepherd 6-0 and Surveyors edged Centennial Lions 2-1. Semi-finals on ’A’ side saw the Co-op down Skeena Sawmills 6-2 and Shoppers take Surveyors 2-1. The final of *A’ side was Shoppers outscoring Co-op 4-3 in the battle of the only two unbeaten squads. Meanwhile, on ’B’ side the remaining teams were being elim- inated. Skeena Cellulose downed AGK 3-2, Centennial Lions defeated Carlyle Shepherd 3-1, Surveyors shaded Skeena Cellulose 3-2 and Lions took out Skeena Sawmills 2-1. After the Lions were ousted 2-1 by Surveyors, they went up against Co-op — the ’A’ side final loser, Co-op got another shot at Shoppers by defeating Surveyors 7-0. In the overall final, Co-op got their revenge by downing Shoppers 3-2. Under-12 division Six teams took part in this divi- sion with Sight and Sound emerg- ing as champions. It took 10 games to do it. Cedarland and Sight and Sound | each drew opening ’A’ side byes. In the first two games, Bandstra edged out Brady’s F.C, 4-3 and Wildwood outscored Finning 11-7. Next it was semi-finals with Sight and Sound bouncing Bandstra 6-1, and Wildwood dumping Cedarland 8-3. In the ’A” final, Sight and Sound triumphed 4-3 over Wild- wood, Down on ’B’ Bandstra cashed in Cedarland 4-0. Bandstra then took care of Finning 3-1. Wildwood dropped from the ‘A’ final and dumped Bandstra 6-1 TERRACE CURLING ASSOCIATION NOTICE OF | ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING to be held SEPTEMBER 24, 1991 AT 7:30 P.M. at the Terrace Curling Club, 3210 School Street, Terrace, B.C. “Get Swept Up in the Fun” side, Finning | knocked out Brady’s 4-2 while for another shot at Sight and Sound. However, the S-and-S gang was on a roll and they clinched the title 8-3 over Wildwood. Under-14 division This age group provided the most exciting final by going into a shootout to decide a winner. Bavarian Inn started with a 2-1 win over Rotary. They followed this up by blanking Overwaitea 7-0 “while Northern Drugs and San-. berry (teams with byes) played to a 4-1 win for the Drug crew. The A’ final was a 2-0 victory for Northern Drugs over Bavarian. On ’B’ side, Sanberry eliminated Rotary 3-2, then shut out Over- waitea 3-0. Bavarian dropped from *A’ side and outscored Sanberry 5- 4 to earn another crack at Norther Drugs for the championship. The Northern-Bavarian final saw them play toa 1-1 tie in regulation time. Ten minutes of overtime went scoreless, so they went the shootout route with five players on each team getting a free kick at the opposition netminder. All went well till the final shooter — a Bavarian player. Up till then each shooter had scored, but the Bavarian boy drove his shot over top of the net to give Northern the title on a 5-4 edge in kicks. Under-16 division This division had only three teams and needed only four games to come up with a winner. Takhar opened with a 5-2 win over Braids. Takhar then lost 7-4 to Manuels. This put Takhar up against Braids once more and it was Takhar with winner again: by a 3-2 score. The Manuels-Takhar title match ‘went to undefeated Manuels by a 5-2 decision.
