Warm hello to all!

After the resignation of our president, Daniel
Le Scieller, we had to fill the vacancy at the
head of the Fédération des parents. It is with
pleasure and anticipation that | have agreed to
succeed Daniel, and pursue his great work.

| am 33 years old, born in Quebec City, where |
lived until | was 22. At that time, my involve-
ment in the community was mostly with scouts
and girl guides, as a Wolf Clubs and Rovers
leader. In fact it is thanks to scouting that | met
Mireille, my spouse. We have been married
for close to 11 years now and we are the par-
ents of two daughters: Emilie, who is 8 years
old, and Sarah-Jane, who is 3. At this time,
Emilie is attending 30 grade at the Ecole des
Pionniers in Maillardville, and Sarah-Jane can-
not wait to follow in her sister's footsteps, and
start kindergarten.

In 1988 we left Quebec to go to Hamilton,
Ontario. Soon after our arrival there, | felt the
need to do things in French, and meet other
Francophones.

Then | decided to establish a group of
Francophone Wolf Clubs which, when I left, was
still in existence. During my stay in Hamilton |
also had various duties in the community, in
order to promote and develop Francophonie.
In 1993 | was the recipient of the Medal com-
memorating Canada’s 125" anniversary, for
my work in the French community.

We settled in Coquitlam in 1994. | also felt the
need to get involved in the community. My first
experience was with the Société d’Education
Gareau of which | am presently the Vice-
president. | took part in the regional meetings
of the Greater Vancouver A.P.E. (School Pa-
rents Associations). | get very much involved
in schools, as far as students’ health and
security are concerned. | visited many C.S.F.
schools (Francophone Education Authority)
when | went around checking on bus security.
| prepared and presented my report to the
C.S.F.’s students. My involvement with the
Conseil Jeunesse (Francophone Youth Council)
of British Columbia enabled me to meet several
young people, and discuss their needs, in
education, Francophone culture and
community.

The Fédération des parents francophones of
British Columbia was among the leaders to
obtain school governance for the Francophones

of this province. Now that school governance
is reality, the Fédération, as well as parents,
have an even more important role to play.

The Fédération, besides celebrating its 20"
anniversary, will continue to play its lead-
ing role in order to have quality education,
which will answer our children’s needs at
the school, as well as at the cultural and
community levels.

As president of the Fédération des parents
francophones, your representative associa-
tion, | will work with all of you in order to
promote, for Francophone schools, strong
partnerships, which will allow them to per-
form their mandate, mostly in developing a
Francophone cultural identity for our children.

Let me end on this note. | want to remind
you that | remain available and open to your
comments and questions.
