Mayor Campbell pointed out that the School Board is an elected body and. that -he did not think the Council - would help by getting involved too deeply in school affairs. Alderman Mabbett Stated that the School Board did not co-operate with the. Council some two years ago, and mentioned that they sent rep-~ resentatives to a meeting however, - ‘they. took nothing back from the Council, even though the City withheld home building permits to try and assist them by reducing the pressure on schools. Mayor Campbell commented .that four or five years ago the City had offered to buy school sites in the City for the School Board at reasonable prices; however, nothing was: heard from the Board in that regard. Alder- man Traboulay pointed out that it was the Mayor who had written to Premier David Barrett on the: City's school problem, and inquired whether a reply had been received. Mayor Campbell answered that none had, and that he did not expert to receive one soon. Alderman Thompson stated he did not wish to get too much involved in School . Board discussions, but felt as a father with three children and as a taxpayer, he should be entitled to conment about the way things are going.
