BANDING WHEEL A banding wheel is handy for wse during glaze appli- cation and also for turning a fragile piece during hand building. Heavy-duty banding wheels can be quite expensive; therefore directions here provide a sturdy piece of equipment at little cost that car be assembled tn an hour or leas, Tools 1, Compass 2. Saber saw, band saw, or coping saw 3, Drill with 3/16" bit 4, Screwdriver 5. Lubricating oll 6. Allen wrench to fit set screws in pulley Parts and Materials 1. A sheet of 5/8 plywood, 10° x 20" 2. Round-head wood screws: a. One 1/2", #6 b. Stz 1°, #8 3. Two V-belt pulleys, any diameter up to 8°, 5/° bore size 4. One 4" length of 5/8" cold-rolled steel shaft. Assembly Cut two disks, 10" in diameter, out of the 5/8" plywood (item 1), Serew the 1/2" round-head wood screws (item 2a) all the way inte the center of one disk. The exposed head will provide a pivot point which will rest on the end of the shaft, Drill three holes all the way through each pulley (ttem 3) in the locations indicated in the drawing, Place one ofthe pulleys on the plywood disk that has the screw in it so that the acrew head is centered in the hole of the pulley. Use three of the 1", #8 screws (item 2b) to fasten the pulley to the disk. This assembly completes the top disk of the banding wheel Use the remaining 1° screws (item 2b) to attach the second pulley to the center al the other plywood disk. Insert the 5/8" shaft (ttem 4) into this pulley and tighten the sect screw in this pulley. Now oil the inside of the pulley on the top disk.
