A STAGE actor from Terrace has picked
up a provincial award for his performance
in Skeena River Players’ Someday.

Date Sebastian earned a Thespian
Award for Best Performance by a Youth
for his turn as Rodney in Someday, a
Skeena River Players production that re-
Presented this region at the provincial
theatre finals. It’s the first time that par-
licular award has been presented at
Mainstage BC,

“AS soon as he appeared on stage, I
knew I-could relax and just enjoy his per-
formance,” said adjudicator John Cooper,
who added Sebastian’s performance te-
vealed a maturity beyond his age.

Kispiox music festival
Stays true to its roots

PERFORMERS FROM as far away as
New Orleans, Hawaii, and Langley, B.C.,
are headlining the eighth annual Kispiox
Valley Music Festival this weekend, a
festival purists insist is the best in the re-
gion.

Unlike its larger cousin, the Midsum-
mer Festival in Smithers, the Kispiox fes-
tival inspires fierce loyalty - and raves —
from its fans, who appreciate its smaller
scale and more intimate atmosphere.

Slated to play this year’s fes-

tock, and something tantalizingly called ,

“carnival burlesque”.

Burque Ingraffia is a jazz trio from
New Orleans.

Mammaguroove will close out the
Saturday evening’s river stage perfor-
mances.

Performances take place Friday even-
ing and all day Saturday and Sunday at
three separate stages, including the kid’s
stage.

Joel Kroeker, the singer-
songwriter who fronts the a
Lower Mainland-based Joel
Kroeker Collective, has
been called the boy Ani Di-
Franco.

He's definitely an original. And while
mainstream success may have eluded
him so far, his 1999 debut CD, Naive Bo-
hemian, reached No. 7 on the college
radio charts, Since then he’s emerged as
a growing presence on the western Cana-
dian music scene.
