Wednescay, March 9, 1966 TERRACE "“Omineca"’ HERALD, TERRACE. BRITISH COLUMBIA Page Three aWhat do you think of the prin- Zple, or lack of principle, of using meone else’s money to pay pri- te debts? If a person in private dustry used the company’s money gear this purpose we would think mat it was wrong. If a trade union ficial were to take the organiza- mon's funds for his own use we ould raise strong voices in pro- mast... . But, in politics we don’t mem to care too much one way ¢ the other. — mm When Mr. Pearson came to of- e we were to have the fresh, mew look in politics. Ilabilities, Al. most without exception senate ap- A pointments have been from among the faithfuls Liberal or Tory). Among the latest coterie is one Keith Davey, former national or- ganizer for the Liberal party. Mr. Davey is one of those who, along with former Finance Minister Gor- don, gave the prime minister such bad advice about calling last fall's election. Mr. Gordon resigned from the cabinet driven by his own conscience. Mr. Davey went to the senate driven by no ¢on- science. When Mr, Diefenbaker was prime minister he did the same thing with one Allister Grosart. Mr, Grosart was the Tory national organizer and received his appro- priate reward for faithful service. I only pick Mr. Grosart and Mr. Davey as being two of a kind and representative of the recipients of this costly welfare plan operated by prime ministers. This system of using your money — to the tune of $15,000 per year per senator — to pay off private debts wouldn't be condon- ed anywhere else, but it is con- doned in politics. To me it is absolutely shocking € and disgraceful that a prime min- f ister who issued a so-called ‘code of ethics’ to his own ministers should continue the unethical { Practice of using public funds in “such a fashion. 46 oI say, {€ we can't abolish the gen- gate — and it looks nearly impossi- a ble — then lets put it on an elect- med basis.
