September 6th, 1977 That a letter be written to The Honourable Hugh A. Curtis, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing, expressing the sad regrets of the Municipal Council of The Corporation of the City of Port Coquitlam on the passage of Bill 42. Carried. Alderman Mavbett referred to a recent tender call for the downtown streetlighting project., and on advising that the bid of a local firm had been only €20C.00 more than that made by the firm awarded the contract, proposed the following motion: Moved by Alderman Mabbett: Seconded by Alderman Keryluk: That the Finance Committee look at the possibility of granting some preference for local firms in calling quotations or tenders.Carried. Alderman Thompson referred to comments made earlier by Alderman Traboulay regarding an official opening for the North Side Fire Hall, and upon an informal vute being taken, a majority of the members indicated they favoured such a function, with Aldermen Thompson and Ranger opposed thereto, Alderman Thompson referred to the need to have an advance sign pos.ed at an appropriate location on the highway warning truckers of the maximum vehicle size and weight that can be accommodated on the "Red" bridge, and the City Engineer agreed te contact the Ministry of Highways in that regard. Alderman Ranger stated his opposition to various budget overexpenditures recently approved by Council, and the City Engineer advised with respect to that for landscaping the raised median on the Lougheed Highway, that this cost will now be reduced as more of the median than jnitially planned has been filled with asphalt. Alderman Kerylul. veferred to the forthcoming United Way Campaign, and gave notice of a motion he would be submitting with respect to a civic grant therefore. Aiderman Laking advised that a meeting concerning the Coquitlam River Study would be held in Hyde Creek Centre at 9:00 a.m. on October 4th, 1977, and the City Engineer was requested to obtain copies of the Study for members of Council in advance thereof.
