February 10th, 1975 Moved by Alderman Thompson: Seconded by Alderman Laking: That as recommended in a report from the City Administrator, February 7th, 1975, arrangements be made to lease 24 parking spaces to the developer as required for the proposed renovation and addition to the second floor of a commercial building at Shaughnessy Street and Whyte Avenue adjoining the Shaughnessy Mall building; AND THAT the said report be ceferred to the Public Works Committee for further discussion on the general parking situation in the downtown area. Carried. From the Health Committee, January 22nd, 1975, advising of a request Health Comm. re use of from the New View Society for use of the City-owned property on Wilson City property on Wilson Ave Avenue (Schinz property) to carry out a program to try to get physically ~New View handicapped people gainfully employed and explaining that the Society is mockery presently operating on an L.I.P. grant of $10,000.00 which will pay salaries of three staff members until June of this year; also, once the Society has obtained premises from which to operate they may become eligible for government assistance. The Coumittee, in its report further advised that the Society has approached service clubs for financial assistance and the U.G.N. has donated $1,000. for rent; however, if rent is waived, the grant could be put towards renovations needed for the house. In its report, the Committee stated that the Works & Utilities Superintendent has roughly estimated the cost of putting the property in habitable condition at about $3,000.00, which would include running a water line to the property, repairs to the roof, replace broken windows and general painting and fixing up. Moved by Alderman Keryluk: Seconded by Alderman Ranger: That as recommended in a report from the Health Committee, January 22nd, 1975, the City-owned property on Wilson Avenue be made available to the New View Society, with the first year's rental set at $1,000.00 which sum would be put towards renovations required for the house, and that the subsequent year's rental be set at a future date following discussion with the Society and depending on the success of the organization; SUBJECT to the sewage disposal system of the premises being inspected and approved by the Simon Fraser Health Unit.
