rally in Terrace

“‘We are seeing history hap-
pening here in this room
tonight,’’ Wayne Shenk said on
Nov, 7 in Terrace to a cross-
section of private school
Students, their instructors,
families and friends.

Shenks, from Vanderhoof, is
consultant to Accelerated Chris-
tian Education (A.C.E.) schools
for the Northwestern British
Columbia district. He and his
wife Donna arrived in Terrace
Thursday evening Nov. 5 with
17 of Northside School’s ninety
Students, three instructors, and
bus driver Arnold Unger. Also
in attendance were students and
teachers from Kitimat Christian
School, Prince Rupert Christian
Academy and Terrace Christian
Academy,

These schools are sponsored
by different church denomina-
tions, and Shenk was comment-
ing on the fact that they are all
pulling together in a common
cause for mutual fellowship and
encouragement.

Friday and Saturday during
the day was an opportunity for
the twelve instructors to discuss
subjects of mutual concern and

interest at the Church of God_

learning center.-A luncheon was
put on for them at noon by the
women of the House of Praise.

Meanwhile, the young’ people.

from Vanderhoof (Grade 9 to

12) enjoyed relaxing at the
Kalum. stables, the home of
Pastor Arnold and Ruth Peters
of the House of Praise. They did
a little work on. their school
paces and prepared their parts
for the evening get-together.

Skits, mimes, poetry and
much joyful music filled the
Church of God sanctuary on
Friday evening with about 50
students from the various
schools participating.

While the instructors were in
- workshop Saturday, the Vander-

hoof students took a trip to the

Mt. Layton Hotsprings at -

Lakelse Lake where they tried
the waterslides. (One girl was
seen giving thanks after having
come safely down the Cannon-
ball run.)
Saturday evening saw a wind-
up lasagna dinner for those from
Vanderhoof at the ‘“‘ranch’’
(Kalum Stables). The students

departed Sunday morning for

Kitimat where they were to par-
ticipate in a service at the
Alliance Church,

The non-denominational
A.C.E. system was formed bet-
ween 1969 and 1972 in the U.S.

more responsibility of ‘‘training
up a child in the way that he
should go’’, rather than relin-
quishing this authority to the
state. Shenks said there are now
