16 Terrace Review — Wednestay, May 14, 1986 oa we ; - . Thornhill landmark may become a restaurant TERRACE — Wayne Ridgway’s monumental log building on Highway 37 near the Terrace- Kitimat airport may soon be fulfilling its originally intended pur- pose after serving simply as a landmark for nearly a decade. In a recent in- terview Ridgway con- firmed that he is present- ly working on finishing the structure as a 150-seat restaurant. The proposed restaurant is to be named “The Hoof and Horn’, and Ridgway says that the theme will be family dining in a rustic at- mosphere. The theme is appropriate to the in- terior of the. massive building, which has 5,500 square feet of floor space on two levels, plank floors and a cathedral ceiling. crisscrossed with enor- mous log beams and structural supports. Fix- All Season tures are to include chandeliers made from wagon wheels, wall- mounted carriage lamps, turn-of-the-century cash registers and a variety of 9 antique clocks. Although the building is located on property zoned _ residential, Ridgway designed and built the structure prior to enactment of zoning bylaws in the area. The business has not yet received approval from the Kitimat-Stikine Regional District, but Ridgway is confident that he has legal non- conforming status in the matter. He stated that he has been attempting to get a ruling on the status of his property from the regional district for over two years without results. Ridgway indicated his intention to go forward with the development in a letter received by the Regional District board at its April 19 meeting. Several directors viewed the proposal favorably, but administration in- dicated that it is necessary to wait for an opinion from the provin- cial Inspector of Municipalities before making a decision. Wayne Ridgway, shown standing in the arched door- way of the unique log bullding he designed and built, is presently in the pro- cess of finishing the struc- ture as a restaurant. = Totem Gulf Service N &J Se 4711 Lakelse Ave., Terrace 635-4515 Steel Belted Radial Tires rvices Ltd.
