WESTERN CANADIAN LUMBER WORKER Shows Skill Of Members A concrete example of the IWA slogan, “From the tree to the finished product” is shown in the photographs on this page depicting the trade and skill of the members of Local 1-252, IWA, employed at the Enterprise Manufacturing Company Limited, Vancouver. IWA members originally felled the trees, |WA members then processed the trees into lumber, and here |WA mem- bers are making products from the lumber. The Plant is the only one in British Columbia making lad- ders and garden furniture that is covered by a union agree- The Plant also makes wood ironing boards, folding clothes driers, step stools, as well as every type of ladder. Occasionally orders are received by the Firm from such far away places as Panama and the Dutch East Indies. However, the majority of the products are sold here in B.C. The number of fly by night operators manufacturing simi- liar products in their basements and garages has made this industry a highly competitive one with a low margin of profit. For this reason Vic Forster, Business Agent of Local 1-252, IWA, is asking all !WA members to request the “Enter- prise” product when buying ladders or garden furniture. _ !
