; OCT 20 1975 TO: Mayor and Council October 9th, 1975 FROM: Alderman P.F, Ranger Re: Use of Rumble Strips to Slow Dow Traffic on Western Drive You will recall that at the request of some residents of Western Drive, we installed rumble strips in response to many complaints of cars exceeding the 30 mph speed limit. It should be pointed out that we have had no previous experience with rumble strips. Their function is to remind wotorists that there is a 30 mph speed limit and please . observe it. They are not designed to physically control vehicle speed as zre speed bumps. I have received complaints of excessive noise and vibracion from four residents on the West side of Western Drive. Their names and addresses are on the attached list. : As a result of these complaints, I did a telephone survey of Western Drive from the 1600 block down to the 1800 block to try and determine the effectiveness of the rumble strips. The results of the survey are attached. I have also asked each member of Council to visit one of the complainants' homes to determine the extent of noise and vibration ~ above the level that traffic would - produce without rumble strips. hil, 7 Page wv P.F.
