Planning Mandates

BECOPMENDAT IGN :

THAT the GVRD Board of Directors be informed that thz City of Port
Coquitlam supports the recommendations of the Task Force to seek
legislation to prepare, adopt and implement a Regional Strategic Plan for
Greater Vancouver, provided that:

lL. The Regional Strategic Plan be prepared in close consultation and
cooperation with member Municipalities;

2. The Regional Strategic Plan receive approval by each local Council;

Subsequent caanges to the Regional Strategic Plan after adoption may
be made with the approval of the local Council and not necessarily
with the approval of the GVRD Board; and

Any subsequent changes to the Regional Strategic Plan proposed by the
GVRD be conditional upon approval from every local Council of
municipalities affected by the changes.

BACKGROUND:

The Greater Vancouver Regional District Task Force has been preparing a
proposal for an improved regional mandate for land use and transportation
planning. The report of the Task Force was referred to Planning Committee for
comments to be prepared by January 22, 1993.
