Riecken Acting City Engineer SUBJECT: Abandonment of Chelsea Pumping Station (Public Works Committee Meeting June 19, 1990) RECOMMENDATION: That Council allocate $11,500 from the 1990 Sanitary Capital Budget for the. purpose of dismantling and removing from service the Chelsea Sanitary Pumping Station. BACKGROUND AND COMMENTS: The Chelsea Pumping Station services a small catchment area on Toronto Street and Pimlico Place. On more than one occasion this station has failed, causing a sewer backup to a resident on Pimlico Place. The Redekop Properties subdivision has installed a sewer main on Chelsea which will be serviced by a new pulp station currently under construction. Once this new station is operational, the flows presently handled by the Chelsea Station can be diverted to the new system, thereby eliminating the need for the Chelsea Station. This work will reauit in lower overall maintenance and operating costs, and will prevent the recurrence of sewer backups on Pimlico. The Committee supports staff's request to eliminate this pumping station. D.G. Riecken, P. Eng. Acting City Engineer CITY TREASURER'S COMMENTS : I certify that there are adequate funds available to cover the cost of the recommended work. » Maitland City Treasurer DGR/ge Attachment ITEM | PAGE
