COUNC SEP 1? t979. MEMORANDUM TO: Mayor and Council September 14th, 1979 FROM: Finance Committee The Finance Committee met on Thursday, September 13th, 1979 and discussed the following items. 1, Charges for Building Permits The Treasurer has done a review of our Building Permit fee structure. Up until this year, our permit fees included the $800, per unit special inspection fee and this made our permits very high compared to other municipalities... Now that this fee has been transferred to the Development Cost Charge By-law, our basic permit fees are quite a bit lower than other municipalities. The Treasurer has suggested a simplified form of fee schedule and the existing and proposed schedules are as follows. Existing: (a) Value of Conscruceton Yerwit tse Favebis ' mr 200.00 secccccccarccescces 3e0O ‘ . . . 201.00 = $00.00 ., tee . $91.00 - 1,090.00 . 2,001.00 ~ 2,000.00 a 2,001.00 = 3,000.00 . : 3,001.00 = &,00U.00 #,001.00 5,000.00 $,091,00 = 6,000.00 6,001.06 - 7,000.00 - 7,001.90 = 3,000.00 8,001.09 - 9,030.00 9,001.60 ~ 10,090.00 | 40,001,039 = 11,000.60 81,601.00 = 12,000.60 . : 42,001.03 = 13,000.00 . 43,002.00 = 16,000.00 2.0... The proposed schedule does not increase fees greatly in the lower categories therefore permits for alterations and minor construction would not change too much in cost. Permits for Single family dwellings, i.e. in the $40-50,000. range would nearly double in cost and in the higher ranges, the increases would be less severe. The Treasurer has prepared a schedule applying these proposed rates to various values of building permits and compared this with charges in other municipalities. This schedule is attached and you will see that the proposed rates compare favourably with the charges in other municipalities and they are not, in any way, out of line. The Finance Committee recommends that the By-law be amended to incorporate the new rates,
