Alderman Thompson advised the lighting has greatly improved on the Lougheed Highway at the Pitt River Bridge. Alderman Traboulay expressed appreciation to the Press and to the Public for their attendance at Council Meetings and wished everyone Seasons Greetings. Alderman Traboulay expressed appreciation to Alderman Thompson for the opening ceremonies of the New Fire Hall. Alderman Traboulay expressed his appreciation of the downtown lighting on Shaughnessy Street. Alderman Keryluk advised Council the Simon Fraser Health Unit is now handling the entire program for rat control and is in the process of phasing out the old program of allowing the public to have rat poison when requested. Moved by Alderman Keryluk: Seconded by Alderman Thompson: That as stated by Alderman Keryluk the Simon Fraser Health Unit be given Council approval to phase out the old program of rat control by dispensing poison to the public on request, and set up a new program with the Vector Control Officer of the Simon Fraser Health Unit dispensing the rat poison only. Carried. Alderman Keryluk advised the telephone poles are still in the telephone poles pavement on Prairie Avenue at Coast Meridian and he felt that these were a safety hazard. Alderman Laking suggested reflectors be placed on each side of the telephone poles to give warning to the traffic. Alderman Keryluk asked the Public Works Committee for a report on the road work done by the City at Coast Meridian Road and Praizie Avenue. Alderman Mabbett advised a report will be prepared by the Public Works Committee. Alderman Ranger advised Council the Planning and Zoning Committee meeting will be held on Tuesday afternoons in the City Hall. Alderman Laking advised there is an old house at 1916 McLean Avenue which is a hazard to children in the area. If the house is in the process of being renovated it should be closed up, and if it is not, it should be removed.
