Mayor and Council DATE: September 23, 1974 L.D. Pollock, City Administrator RE: Application for Tree Cutting Permit ~ Nu West Development Corp. I previously circulated to Council copies of a letter of application from Nu West Development Corporation for a tree cutting permit to clear land at their proposed housing development on Cedar Drive. Along with that letter was a letter from myself refusing to issue the permit on the grounds that plans for the proposed development had not yet been finalized and it would be premature to clear road allowances and building set-backs based on a preliminary plan. Nu West have now contacted me to see if they could proceed with the removal of the underbrush as they have been advised by their consultants that it is des- trable to undertake clearing work as far in advance of construction as possible to ailow the peat moss on the site to dry out. This clearing would not be in contravention of our By-law provided that no trees in excess of fifteen feet in helght were removed. I have informed Mr. Bigelow of Nu West Development that I did not recommend any clearing of the site unless Council and the public were informed as to the Mature of the clearing being undertaken.: He has therefore asked for Council's approval of a request to clear the site of underbrush only which would not in- volve removal of any trees in excess of fifteen feet in height. Mr. Bigelow will be at the Council meeting on Monday, September 23rd to explain his problem to the Council. reverse side .
