orner Chai T would like to extend a warm weleame to our new board members Bill Rennie, Ron Feiehe, Celia Rice-Jones, Ronda Green and Donna Nabata. [ would also like to thank those of you whe attended the AGM. Over the nexc year we will be focusing on several areas of inperest co the Guild. One priority will be to explore ways to increase our membership and make the Guild more relevant to all che potters in BC. We will alse organize more member participation events to bring more of us together and stimulate enthusiasm for Guild activities. The “Made of Clay” book project is nearing complecion and this fall and winter we will have our hands full of books, On anocker issue we will be reviewing che guidelines for che Porters’ Guild Educational Scholarship co address some concerns thar this scholarship be awarded in the future to an emerging scudent and not for professional development. [ personally think the Guild could support professional development as an excellent way of offering a direct benefic to members. However, other funding may have to be secured for this, Perhaps the Maureen Wright Bursary could be perpetuated as funds declicated for this purpose. As always, it is hard to balance the need to reach our to the cormmunicy at large and offer same service to our members. Ower the next year we will be comcentrating on gallery profitability, While we rely on protic from the gallery co fund Guild revenue shortfall, we cam mo longer take this for granted as it appears even “good years” in the Fine Arts & Craft business are marginal. We have an excellent staff who work very hard co ensure chat che gallery dows the best it can. While they, like people in all other businesses, are subject co greater economic forces, they also rely very much on the good will and a steady supply of both quantity and quality products from the members who supply the shop. [ hope every one has a grear and inspiring summer. And now ] must go and brush the cobwebs off che old juicer mold. Ron Vallis North West Ceramics Fo tion Onee again the Foundation will collaborate with the Culinary Arcs Foundation of BC and The Potters’ Guild of BC in the planning and staging of our next Fund-raiser “From che Oven and rhe Kiln", A five course culinary delist (including wines) will be served at the Delea Pactfic Hoel on Friday, September 25th at 6:30 P.M. The dessert will be presented on dishes donated by the Poeters of BC and ticket holders will be able to take these home after the dinner is aver. The evening will include a silent auction af pieces by well known artisans and specialty items donated by restauranteurs and the food industry. Funds generated by this event will go cowards our scholarship program amd further support for the book “Made of Clay -The Ceramics of BC”. We have called for donations from individual artisans so frequently thar we have decided to appreach donations ina different way. We are asking groups, guilds and institutions to organize plate decorating demonstrations and workshops where participants bring in at least four bisque fired plates which they will glaze and decorace using demonarrated techniques and provided materials. The Foundarion will organize guest artists to do the demonstragons in exchange for a donation of three of the plates, We hope that this plan will provide a stimulating event, exchange of ideas and participation in an important cause - funding for educational programs in ceramics. The firac of these happenings will be organized by Ronda Green for the students of the Eagle Harbour Community Centre on June 2, from 7-10 P.M. Vincent Massey has agreed to demonstrate some of his glaze on glaze decorating techniques using the standard glazes stocked by the community cenmre which are fired no cone T oxidation.
