The city would pay all costs, but council hopes it would not be on a long-term basis. The move would determine the need for a Canada Customs officer at the airport, and therefore give the city the ammuni- tion they need to doa little lobby- ing in Ottawa for full federal cus- toms service. The doors opened at 8:30 and an hour later the dance floor was crowded. First up was Willy and the Poorboys with their credible renditions of Creedence Clearwater Revival tunes. This band was a lot of fun and roused the crowd by opening with their namesake song, Pieces like Have You Ever Seen the Rain, Put a Spell on You and Proud Mary rang with surprising similarity to the original CCR recordings. There was delay in the arrival of Dr. Hook, bringing the crowd to its feet in waves, chanting for the band. At last the show got under way, and the distinctively eye-patched lead singer, Ray Sawyer, opened the set with I Got Stoned and I Missed It. Sawyer is still a true showman, despite appearing older and (more) weather-beaten. The current band has been together for four years, playing the circuit with oldies like Cover of the Rolling Stone and Walk Right In. They also did some more recent work with a song called Missing You, due to be released soon on a yet-to-be-named solo album. a Sawyer said in an interview that the band took its named from _ him. He was dubbed "The Hook" because of the cye patch he wears on his right eye. He got it in a car accident in 1967 that left him partially paralysed for a year. Sawyer stills offers a showy stage presence that seemed to delight the Terrace audience. Around town: In its final week at the Northern Motor Inn, Easy Money is playing George’s Pub. To follow them is Long Gone, engaged for a three-week stay. At Gigi’s in the Terrace Inn, the Shameless Hussies are playing. And that’s it for this week. e 2 4 4 an NS NI CROWN LAND FOR SALE A SECOND REQUEST FOR OFFERS TO PURCHASE The Ministry of Lands and Parks Invites sealed offers to purchase for the following property: LOCATION: Halliwell Avenue, Terrace, B.C.
