Y OF PORT COQUITLAM THE CORPORATION OF THE iT MEMO TO: Public Works Committee . 4... 2, DATE: October 16, 1979. FROM: J. Maitland, City Treasurer. RE: METERED WATER re ares Under our present by-law #99} all users of ‘water other than residential premises shall be supplied by a meter service. Residential solely for residential’ use. In n has a horse, two cows, some ntial property. Regardless of what the by-law says our Present practise is that commercial and industrial properties are on meters and farms are on the regular flat rate. In our agricultural area we have 26 commercial Properties, 94 residential Properties, 56 unimproved (vacant) Properties and 40 farms. The 26 commercial properties are the only on their water based on their consumption. What to do with the farms is the Problen; right now they are on flat rates and it would cost us about $6,200 to install meters to the 31 farms now without meters. The solution to the problem with the farms is to either: Put them all on meters which is the fair way to go as they each would be paying’ their own way. However, it would take us 10 to 12 years to just break even on the cost of installing the meters. . Leave the farms on the flat rate structure but start to use our option in section 5 of the by-law which is to install a meter where ever we feel it is warranted. The decision to install a meter is at Council's discretion. ‘J. Maitland
