April 14th, 1975 From the City Administrator, April 11th, 1975, advising that this year the B.C. Fire Chiefs College, which the Fire Chief attends annually, will be held in Vernon on May 12th to 16th, inclusive; that the Fire Chief has requested permission for the Fire Prevention Officer to attend the Fire Prevention Officers' Seminar in Port Alberni for the week of June 3rd, 1975; and that the City Engineer has requested authority for the Parks Superintendent to attend the Pacific North-west Recreation and Park Conference in Billings, Montana, May 3rd to 6th, 1975, Moved by Alderman Keryluk: Seconded by Alderman Mabbett: That as recommended in a report from the City Administrator, April llth, 1975, the Fire Chief, the Fire Prevention Officer, and the Parks Superintendent be authorized to attend respectively, the B.C. Fire Chiefs' College in Vernon on May 12th to 16th, inclusive; the Fire Prevention Officers' Seminar in Port Alberni for the week of June 3rd, 1975; and the Pacific North-west Recreation and Park Conference in Billings, Montana, May 3rd to 6th, 1975; AND THAT the expenses of the above-stated employees in attending their respective conferences, be paid by the City. From the City Clerk, April 10th, 1975, submitting a photocopy of a letter from the British Columbia Telephone Company dated March 19th, 1975, being the official advice to the City of the Telephone Company's application for a rate increase and advising that in discussing the subject with Mayor Campbell, he suggested that although the City should not take a position with respect to the amount of the rate increase itself, the City should once again try to have telephone rates equalized throughout the Regional District; further, that the Council might want to advance this proposal to the Greater Vancouver Regional District for discussion and possible preparation of a presentation to the Telecommunication Committee of the Canadian Transport Commission. In speaking to the memorandum from the City Clerk, Mayor Campbell pointed out that the City of Port Moody, being only about three miles to the West of Port Coquitlam, pays a lesser telephone rate and has toll- free calling to North and West Vancouver, Richmond, and Surrey.
