in an ongoing capacity to institute and promote common
educational programs, common traffic safety signs, common
crosswalk indicators, etc.,(that are easily recognizable

by members of all District 45) The educational progran
would serve to educate Students, parents and all motorists
on safe driving habits focusing attention on school zones
and hazardous times of the School day. A parent and a
Student representative should Sit on this Committee as well.

Overhead signs, preferably ones that light ub, Should be
installea at all crosswalks, with priority given to those
crosswalks that are in-arterial routes, These overhead
Signs should be brightly coloured and equipped with
flashing lights that could be nand operated by pedestrians
as the need arises,

like to see larger signs, a much brighter color, and
would like to see the speed limit posted right on the
Sign itself (maybe attached underneath),

traffic safety and school signs and ensure that they are

made visible - especially school zone Signs and crosswalk SLOY

Paint a warning right on the road indicating that a school weson
crosswalk is anead utilizing a paint colour that WLil be |
most effective, Speed limit could also be vainted

The feasibility of issuing each school 4O" Traffic

Cones that are brightly coloured and vainted with the

words "School Zone'!, "Slow, School Zonet or something
equally effective should be Seriously looked at. They
woula be most effective if Dlaced in the middle of the road
in advance of the crosswalks. Unlike the wooden child

Silhouette cut-outs, these cones would bounce back if struck
by a vehicle,

If feasible, put some type of obstruction on the road
~Similar to the small raised bumps used to demarcate lanes
on highways —~ that will raise the awareness of drivers
approaching school zones.

While we realize there is Only so much manpower, we

would like to see more patrolling by police at the
schools in peak hours,
