1 November 2nd, 1981. Prior to passage of the foregoing resolution Alderman Gates expressed concern regarding traffic backing up on Shaughnessy Street waiting to go across the Lougheed Highway. Alderman Wright. inquired regarding the cost involved and the City Engineer advised it would be approximately $1,500.00 to $2,000.00 for 50% cost of the highway sign and advised he was opposed due to possible problems with traffic back ups. Aldermen Keryluk. and Wright spoke in favour of having the Department of Highways study the request. Alderman Muldoon spoke in favour of having one lane which would have the option of going straight through or turning left. Mayor Laking suggested having: the Department of Highways study the proposed left turn lane prior to making a change and Alderman Traboulay advised this was the proposal of the Committee. From the City Engineer, October 26th, 1981 regarding closure of the lane east of Mary Hill Road between Pitt River Road and Rindall. Moved by Alderman Traboulay: Seconded by Alderman Keryluk: That as recommended by the Public Works Committee the south end of the lane east of Mary Hill Road between Pitt River Road and Rindall Avenue be closed to traffic. Carried. From the City Engineer, October 26th, 1981 regarding the proposed bus route on Victoria Drive. Moved by Alderman Traboulay: Seconded by Alderman Keryluk: That Mr. John Mills of the Greater Vancouver Regional District Transit Department be invited to address Council regarding the Council's concerns on the bus routes on Coast Meridian Road and on Shaughnessy Street.
