November 27th, 1978. A regular meeting of the Municipal Council of The Corporation of the City of Port Coquitlam was held in the Council Chamber, Port Coquitlam City Hall, 2272 McAllister Avenue, Port Coquitlam, B.C. on November 27th, 1978. His Worship Mayor J.M. Campbell, Aldermen J.J. Keryluk, G.R. Laking, E.W. Mabbett, M.A. Thompson and L.M. Traboulay in attendance. Also in attendance were City Clerk R.A. Freeman, City Engineer F.E. Peters, P. Eng., Fire Chief W.S. Wingrove, Deputy Fire Chief J. Boileau, City Treasurer J.G.S. Maitland, Planning Officer L. Lee, Works & Utilities Superintendent G.W. Ulmer and Mrs. D.L. Vyse. CONFIRMATION OF MINUTES: Moved by Alderman Mabbett: Minutes: - November 20/78 Seconded by Alderman Laking: That the minutes of the regular meeting of this Council held on November 20th, 1978, be taken as read and adopted. DELEGATIONS: Delegations: B.C. Tel re Mr. Dave Coath, District Customer Service Manager and Mr. Roy Telephone Exch. Osing, Group Preduct Manager, Exchange Services, representatives from Rate Grouping. the Brirish CoLumbia Telephone Company were present to make a presentation to Council on the rate regrouping system and advised that Port Coquitlam now falls into a larger useage rate group which results in an increase in the cost to each trunk line. The increase to one-party lines would be 85¢, two-party lines 80¢ and individual business lines $2.10. Alderman Traboulay advised in his opinion the service is poor, Port Coquitlam cannot telephone to North Vancouver or several other other locations without paying toll and the residents in Port Coquitlam cannot pay their telephone bills without paying an additional charge. Mr. Coath replied there wil] be a telephone mart. in the new Coquitlam Shopping Centre where residents of Port Coquitlam will be able to pay their telephone bills without an additional charge. Mr. Coath also mentioned that B.C. Telephone Company does a monthly survey on the number of calls to the North Shore and when the demand gets to a certain scale the service will be extended for toll free calls.
