September 8th, 1975 appraiser and that the property be zoned P-2 (Special Institutional) to restrict development to school construction. Carried. Prior to passage of the foregoing resolution, a discussion ensued, and the Planning Officer advised that on further examination it is now apparent that the property is located within the Agricultural Land Reserve and therefore the City does not have the power to rezone it. The City Planner further advised that application must be made to the Greater Vancouver Regional District for approval under a special provision of the Land Commission Act to have the property designated for use as a school site. Alderman Ranger queried the basis on which this particular site was chosen by the School Board and Mayor Campbell advised it was felt a school in that location would alleviate the problem of inadequate accommodation at Central School. The City Administrator advised that this site, along with one on the North side of the City, were chosen by the School Board in consultation with the then City Planning Officer and he advised he would cbtain further information as to whether the criteria therefore is still valid. Alderman Ranger requested the City Administrator to investigate the feasibility of selling only the portion of the site required for school construction with respect to this property and ali future school sites and dedicating the surrounding land as park as the City would then have full control over school grounds thus solving the problem of what level of maintenance is desired with respect to soccer pitches, etc. Alderman Laking pointed out that in doing that, the City may be faced with the costs for grounds around the schools, and he expressed concern as to how this would be funded, From the City Administrator, September 5th, 1975, regarding a request by Council at the July 14th, 1975 meeting to investigate the approximate cost of installing a P.A. system in the Council Chamber, and advising it would appear that a suitable system can be procurred for approximately $600.00. Alderman Keryluk, in speaking to the above-stated memorandum, queried the cost of $600.00 for a P.A. System received from Cam-Gard Supply Ltd. when the local Radio Shack outlet quoted a price of between $300.00 and $400.00 for the equipment and he was advised that the probable cost would be between $450.00 and $600.00, depending on whether additicnal components are required.
