An incongruous part of the par- ade was the delegation of Shrin- ers, ageing sports in fancy-dress Oriental costumes, looking as self-conscious as small boys at a masquerade party. They were ac- companied by a rather washed- out pair of “American Beauties” and a healthy-looking young chimp. “ Briton to Ike: ERE'S WHY THE WORLD HATES U;S, By J. R. CAMPBELL LONDON The President of the United States, the country which is the main source of war policies and war threats, last week asked all mankind to pray for peace. A few hours later he told Congress that it was unfortunate the France and Italy had not ratified the European Defense Community to enable the West Germans to rush ahead with rearmament. He urges prayer and the rebuilding of German militarism almost in the same breath. He wants Europe re-made according to American specific.- tions with People’s Democracy re- placed by capitalist, landlordism and probably fascism. He regards the present divi- sion of. Europe as something to be revised. Hence his opposi- tion to any European Security Organization which would guar- antee existing frontiers. Here is the whole paradox of the U:S. position in a nutshell. Eisenhower and Company pro- fess peace but they want changes which can only be brought about by war. Eisenhower prays for peace, but also wants, and presumably prays for, the overthrow of the Peo- ple’s Republic of China, and its replacement by Chinese yes-men to Amerjcan Big Business. He wants the United Nations, but would not admit to it any state that the U.S. does not like. Eisenhower is prepared to give scme atomic materials to some countries for peaceful purposes. He is against the unconditional prohibition of atomic and hydro- gen weapons. He is not prepared to say that the U.S. will not be the first to use these horrible weapons. Eisenhower pays lip-service to peaceful co-éxistence. It is, how- ever, peaceful co-existence in a world re-made according to U.S. imperialist desires.
