WHEREAS, 19 marks ye lOOth anniversary of
incorpo of ye District of Maple
Ridge;

ALND WHEREAS, ye Fraser River forms an integral
and vital lifeline of ye history of Maple
Ridge;

AND WHEREAS, yo hearty pioneers of Maole Ridge
constructed rafts of logs for navigation
between Mission and ye Haney townsite;

AND WHEREAS, Mayor Batty Dube is renowned to be
an expert raft navigator and ye Aldermen
deem thomselvas proficient oarsmen;

AND WHEREAS, a Raft Race is being held on Sunday,
ye 19th day of May, A.D., 1974 from ye People's
Bridge at Mission to ye World Famous Haney
Wharf; :

AND WHEREAS, ye Century ‘74 flag will be proudly
flown from ye foremast of ye Maple Ridge entry;

NOW THEREFORE, in open meeting assembled, ye Mayor
and Municipal Council of ye District of Maple
Ridge do hereby issue a formal challenge to ye
Mayors and Councils of ye Municipalities front-
ing ye Fraser's River to join in ye competition
by entering such congloneraticn of logs as may
be deemed expedient as in confor
