SCHOOL DISTRICT No. 43 (COQUITLAM) 8830 POIRIER ST. COQUITLAM, B.C. OU March 30, 1973 : i APR ~ 9 1973 Mr. ReA. Freeman, City Clerk Corporation of the City of Port Coquitlam 2272 McAllister Avenue Port Coquitlam, B.C. Dear Mr. Freeman: Your letter of March &th regarding attendance and other arrangements for the Cedar Drive Elementary School was considered by the Board at its last meeting. The Board feel that they would like to clarify item one in your letter regarding thirty-eight. pupils from Cedar Drive being transferred to James Park Elementary School in September of 1973. To accomplish this the Board is changing the attendance boundary for the Cedar Drive and James Park Elementary Schools effective September, 1973. It is not the intention of the Board that pupils affected will be transported to James Park Elementary School. The charge will come about by an attendance boundary change, and it is the view of the Board that this is reasonable because of the relatively Little extra distance that the pupils will have to travel to James Park as Opposed to Cedar Drive. With regard to item two, the possibility of constructing an addition to Cedar Drive, the Board feel that an application which has already been made . to the Devartment of Education to construct a new school on the Lincoln Site would, if approved, negate the need for an addition to the Cedar Drive Elem entary School at this time. The construction of the Lincoln School is a better solution than to enlarge the Cedar Drive Elementary School end reduce the size of the proposed new Lincoln School. The Board appreciate the City's offer as recited in number three of your letter, that is an offer of support in obtaining Provincial Government approval of construction of a school on the Lincoln Site by September, 1974. In this connection the Board feel you should know that the Chairman ‘of the Board has discussed this matter with the Hinister of Education and this dis« cussion has been fadlowed up with a letter fror the Moard to the Devartment requesting that the Department authorize the Board to proceed immediately with the plans for the construction of the new school on the Lincoln Site.
