The Deputy Engineer briefly described the current location and monitoring capability of GVRD air quality monitoring stations located within the City. Station 41 located at 2150 Wilson Avenue samples particulate matter once every 6 days on a year round basis. Station T21 at Sun Valley Park monitors ozone concentrations from April through September. The data is recorded on a paper chart on a continuous basis throughout the period of operations. ':', 1 Il r'll 1 111i! They are also looking into relocating the Eagle Ridge station in Port Noody to a location in Coquitlam to provide a more centralized sampling location for the area. The Fagle Ridge station currently rrrsnitors a full range of air quality parameters. == Jii! IK lir i ~mlil',', Ii The Committee felt that the GVRD should be requested to upgrade the monitoring station to sample a full range of air quality parameters on a year round tasis. The Committee determined that the City should provide assistance in coordinating the efforts of the various volunteer groups who participated last year and that these groups be invrted to attend a coordination meeting on Saturday, April 29, 1989. Rlji I ApR 4" 85 The Committee also reI.commended that Council proclaim the weekend of Nay 6 and 7 to be PoCo Pride Days in conjuction with the pitch-in and that the Environmental Protection Committee budget be used tocampaign, fund newspaper advertisements advising City residents of the proclamation and suggesting that they make an effort to clean up their spirit of community pride during he designated weekend.environment in a ITEN IVl RECYCLING The Chairman noted that he has been advised by SHARE that they intend to give six months notice to the effect that they will discontinue pick-up of newspapers in the City. It was suggested that Derek the tx. invited to attend the next EPC meeting to provide statistics on Nlurphy how much newspaper is being picked up in the City, and whether or not a subsidy in the amount of the tipping fee saved would be sufficient to prevert the discontinuation of the pick-up service. The Committee felt that every effort should be made to keep the pick-up of newspapers active. ITEN Vl 1989 BUDGET It was decided to defer discussion of this item pending the outcome of discussions with SHARE on the options available for continuation of the newspaper pick-up service. ITEN VI 1 OTHER BUSINESS The proposed wording of the amendment to the Fire Prevention Bylaw as circulated by the City Clerk was discussed.
