ISSN 0319 812X THE POTTER'S GUILD OF BRITISH COLUMBIA 315 West Cordova Street Vancouver, B.C. V6B TE5 NEWSLETTER Easter Greetings - Spring has arrived early with it's flurry of ceramic activity - workshops, Seminars and exhibition opening nights are positively filling the calendar! Perhaps most eventful for the Guild was the opening of Gallery Seven at 565 Hamilton Street, Vancouver, B.C. (formerly House of Ceramics). Congratulations to Barbara Lambert and Kum Yuen who plan to carry on the tradition of quality craft exhibitions and Sales set by Hiro Urekami. This month I visited several Vancouver Island potters, and entertained a number of visiting craftsmen in Vancouver. Please continue to keep in touch. Jeanne Sarich began our Spring Series of lectures with a most informative and enjoy- able illustrated lecture on traditional Japanese pottery techniques and special --glaze effects - showing examples of her own Shino glazes. Thank you for the great response to the questionnaire. The results are now being tabulated, and we have learned that the Newsletter Western Potter workshops and Travelling Workshops are high on members priorities. Jean Fahrni 224-6200 _ MARCH GENERAL MEETING - Program “4 Here is a program you won't want to miss: We-are fortunate to have Fanny Grubner, returned from her recent visit to South America, coming to tell us of the pottery in the area of San Pedro DeaAtacaina, a Villagé in the Andes. She will show slides of the works in the museum put together by Father le Page, village priest. Fanny works in the style of the Ancients --using slips and incised decorations on her earthen- ware pots. She will bring examples of her work and encourages others working in the same medium to bring a pot for "show and tell”. Mark the date - bring a friend. We want to see you and know you will enjoy a stimu- lating evening. Fireside Room, Unitarian Church, 49th and Oak Streets - 8:00 p.m. March 15th The Aprit Program will follow a similar format - dealing with traditional early ‘brown wares' contrasted with modern high-iron and ash glazes using local ship clays . Iilustrated. This will be followed in May by a program on Celadons.
