Juliette was born in Montreal on April 30, 1919, Her father was Conrad Racine and her mother was Dovina Denault. _Julictte came from a family of five children — four girls —- Regina, Leona, Simone, and Julieete, and one boy named Al- bert When she was four her parents bought a farm about four miles from the U.S. border in Quebec, on an island named St. Paul Ie ’O’ Noix, for the nut trees grow- ing there. Being the youngest of five chil- dren, Juliette spent a lot of time with her father in his garage. In addition to being a farmer, Con- rad was also a very good mechan- ic, who was very much in demand. But unfortunately, he couldn't tefuse anyone. The long hours took their toll and illness took him away when Juliette was 11, So from this time on Juliette had to help with the werk on the farm. She didn’t really have an opportunity to go to school, Julictte married Phillipe, one of the hired farm hands, in 1936 when she was 17 years old, Then she went to live with her in-laws for a few years, Her father-in-law also had a large farm. . Julictte was expected to do her Share of the farm work as well as perform house duties. As time went on, she became the proud mother of six boys — Ferdinand, Claude, Ray, Adricnd, Michel and Johnnie, Juliette always spoke of her family with pride, and would do anything for her sons. Juliette Tremblay A few years passed and Phillipe went to work on the highways, In 1949 Juliette became the bread- winner of the family when her husband was stricken with Tuber- culousis. Juliette then went to work at an airforce base in St. Johns, doing alterations for the navy. Then in 1960 Philippe was diagnosed with emphezema. Juliette continued working, and nursing her husband, until he passed away in June 1980, Her seamstress skills were very useful, both for her family and at her job, She made all her boy's clothing, and would even re-sew old airforce uniforms into suits for the boys. Once she made a beautiful suit ‘for her son’s confirmation, and it only cost her a 10 cent spool of thread. She said that people used to wonder how the boys could be so well dressed, always wearing sults to church. Once one lady wondered how should could af- ford such an expensive suit for one of her sous, when she was so poor, In 1981, after her husband’s death, Juliette decided to move to Terrace and live with her son Ray Tremblay, and his wife Ruth. Fuliette was rather sad when she left her home in Quebec -— her house was over 200 years old. It had been in her husband's family for over 100 years. In 1983 Juliette decided she needed a litle more independence and decided to move into ihe Wil- lows Apartments, At the Willows | she soon became involved in all the activities there, and had a ready smile for everyone. She kept busy in many wasy. Juliette joined the Legion Lady’s Auxiliary, and the Old Age Pensioners Association. Saturday nights she spent playing cards, She was surrounded by many friends, and was touched by their kindness towards her. I am sure that today she is saying thank you to all of you for your friendship.
