APE News NANAIMO »——— By Dominique caron, APE CounciL MEMBER ————a We’re finally back together after a long break! In Nanaimo, we’re bursting with energy and looking forward to an outstanding year! One of our goals is to promote the francophone program within the community. According to the District #93 School Board, we have the potential to double our clientele. Our mission therefore is to make a name for ourselves in our community—to be seen and heard. Suggestions are welcome! LANGLEY s————— By Maric FRASER, PARENT ——-—— To start the year off on a high note, our Kindergarten and grades 1, 2, and 3 classes enjoyed a wonderful outing to the Apple Barn in Abbotsford. The children sampled the apples and rode through the fields in the hay wagon with Farmer John. In September, we held numerous activities for the students: the Terry Fox Run was a great success, as were the open house, pizza day, and our advertising campaign at the Woodgrove Shopping Centre. Parent volunteers were on hand to promote the francophone program that we all hold so dear. We wish you all a great start to the school year! Keep up your excellent work—it’s so important for our children. RICHMOND a—_—__________ By Nancy Asse.in, APE Secretary ————_——_———2 We began the 2003-2004 school year in high spirits. This is our third year and we now have 34 students in Kindergarten through Grade 4. As parents, we are well aware that now isnot the time to sit back and rest on our laurels. Recruitment and fundraising are the hot topics again this year. The APE will make sure that the program meets all of our expectations. Port Coquitlam » By Luc Lane et Louise-Anouk Que.Let, APE Memsers -» The 2003-2004 school year is underway! At Des Pionniers School in Maillarville, we have an enrolment of 302 students. Welcome all newcomers! This year, the parents’ association has planned numerous fundraisers and other activities, including a dance, bingo, bazaar, fashion show, and more. On October 3, the school hosted the scrumptious chocolate fest...were you there to enjoy it? On October 25, don your Dracula or Super-Baby (or...) disguise and join us for a family Halloween dance! We all know that, whatever their source—selling small articles, books and magazines, toys, or chocolates, or hosting community events—the monies collected all go toward a single goal: improving the lives of our young people and giving them as many resources as possible, both now and in the future. The balloons are up, the champagne uncorked—Here’s to another great year! Eco-te ANNE-HEBERT, VANCOUVER a———— By Dinier THEvENARD, APE Presipent —————= The 2002-2003 went out with a bang, with the usual round of activities...and that was only the month of June. Our field day was a huge success—bikes, hamburgers, and games all vied for the attention of parents and students alike. There were activities for graduates, the APE-hosted dinner for teachers, and a sports day organized by the teachers, with a helping hand from many parents who served refreshments and manned the infirmary. After all of this work, the summer vacation was indeed welcome. Now here we are again, relaxed and refreshed. The new school year promises to be exciting. We have a few more students this year. The school now has an assistant director and there’s been a turnover among some of the teaching staff. New parents have joined our ranks and will work with us to make the school an increasingly vibrant community. This year, we will focus on linguistic vitality (with lunchtime and after school clubs), on knowledge (with activities targeting proper handling of student conflict), and on the inclusion of non francophone parents in the life of the school. 13 Jufo-Parents
