Re: Reinstitution of the Office of Rentalsman

The City Council at its regularly scheduled meeting of Monday
January 15, 1990 endorsed the following resolution: |
"WHEREAS there is a decreasing supply of affordable
rental housing in the Greater Vancouver Region;

"AND WHEREAS increased pressures are being placed on
local government to resolve a problem that is neither
of their making or within their authority to resolve;

"AND WHEREAS the Provincial Government through its
spokesman and assistant deputy minister/ministers has
indicated a total lack of awareness as to the extent
of the problem and viable solutions;

"AND WHEREAS the City of Vancouver and the City of
North Vancouver have by resolution called upen the
Provincial Government to reinstate the rentalsman’s
office with appropriate powers to deal with rental
increases;

"THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT the Greater Vancouver
Regional District be requested "on an emergency
basis", to canvass all other members of the G.V.R.D.,
seeking endorsement of the Proposal tio reinstate the
rentalsman’s office and with majority support,
petition the Provincial government on behalf of its”
member municipalities to make the necessary ye
Legislative change at the next Sitting of the
Legislature;
