CELEBRATION 88 AWARDS To recognize those Canadians who have made outstanding contributions to their communities, the Government of Canada is proud to announce the "Celebration 88" Awards Program. This program honours Canadian citizens who have demonstrated characteristics which are in keeping with the admirable ideals of the Olympic Spirit: hard work, determination, moral character and dedication to community. Local Celebration Committees are asked to seek out in their commun y ty deserving recipients of these awards in their communities. The "Celebration 88" Awards Program has two parts. The "Calebration 88" Medais honour individuals who have made outstanding contributions to amateur sports. The “Celebration 88" Certificates recognize those who have centributed to the quality of life in their community. These certificates are to be awarded to neopie in any field of endeavour. HOW TO SELECT LOCAL RECIPIENTS OF THE "CELEBRATION 88" MEDALS: Local Celebration Committees are asked to solicit nominations from their community. The committee is then asked to select tho recipiants, from those nominated, by consensus. Recipients will be awarded their medals by a Member of Parliament at a ceremony which will be conducted shortly before the arrival of the torch in their community. In those communities NOT on the Olympic Torch Relay Route, awards will be made at a designated "Celebration 38" Ceremony. AWARD CATEGORIES FOR “CELEBRATION 88" MEDALS: (1) Athlete - Choose one male and one female for their outstanding contribution to their sport and community. (2) Yolunteer - Choose an individual for his or her unselfish contribution te sports and community. (3) Coacn - Choose an individual for devoting his or her time to the encouragement of fair play and sportsmanship and for bringing out the best in the athletes under his or her guidance. (4) Official - Choose an individual for devoting his or her time to the promotion of fair play and sportsmanship. (5) Sponsor - Choose a business that has contributed monetarily, or with services in kind, towards the development of amateur sport in the community. we+/2
