TERRACE — A tonne of north-
west gold-bearing ore is in
Colorado waiting to be put
through a test recovery plant.

It’s a. miniature of what

Homestake Canada wants to in- —

stall at its Eskay Creek property
and is needed to determine how it
will work, says company piesi-
dent Jack Thompson.

Testing in a Colorado lab
should take two to three months
and will be followed by. a formal
application to the — provincial
government for approval to con-
struct a gold mine.

There'll also be a feasibility
study done-to better determine
costs in order for Homestake to
make a final development deci-
sion.

Thompson. said the develop-
ment should cost between $180-
$200 million and have a life span
of eight to 10 years employing
approximately 230 people.

Houston is to be the beneficiary
of a lot of those jobs because the
company wants to use an areca
near Equity silver mine to process
the ore,

Homestake says 80 people will
be employed at the minesite and
125 to 150 direct jobs will be cre-
ated in Houston,

Homestake wants fo process the
ore at Houston because a lot of
the environmental information it
needs is available through the
Equity. experience,

Hydro Lines, a road and skilled
work.force are ‘also close at hand.

Work to date indicates the Es-
kay property can support a 360

tonne per day plant producing -

250,000 ounces of gold, 11 mil-
lion ounces of silver, 8,000
tonnes of zinc and 1,000 tonnes
of copper a year,

Homestake is having meetings
in Stewart Feb. 11, Smithers Feb.
10 and Houston Feb. 9 to explain
its project.

work. It’s a matter of fine tuning
to get the best extraction for the
highest value of ore we can,”
said Thompson.
