School’s first grads Terrace photographer John Roders recently visited K’san Village and the Kitanmax School of Northwest Coast Indian Art where they have just released their first graduates. by Philip Musselman When Roders was in Hazelton he visited the Kitanmax School of Northwest Coast Indian. Art and found silk . screening, carvings, and other forms of art on display and for sale to the public. The school has only been open long enough to release its first graduates. This area is great for tourists, said Roders, because of K’san Village and its new school, and because of the great steelhead fishing along the Kispiox River. .K’san.is easily access- ible from Terrace (about a two-hour drive}, which only adds more tourism to the Northwest area. _Leetitiete mmmirere wanted fetuses are not going to make any dif- ference. This scientific view also suggests that if we have the right to search and destroy in the womb, why not nuke the Soviets if we so chose, or if the Americans so chose, or the British. I am pleased to read that. the scientist understands that the argument against abor- tion is the same argu- ment against pollution: that it is based on natural law which should be allowed sway with minimum control (laissez faire and not socialism) over the environment, including the environ- ment of the womb. I suggest that every law of God, whether natural or spiritual, has, - when broken, its own built-in judgment. When the natural laws of the . environment are broken by humans who think they are in control, there is the judgment of pollu- tion, which has brought us 20 years away, in my opinion, from the total annihilation of our planets, and our lives. For the built-in judgments of abortion, I suggest people contact their local Pro-life group for details. It seems he tends to lay blame for many ills of the world at the doorstep of the com- munists, He seems to claim that the free people of the world have one enemy and that is communism. He tends to overlook. the threat that facists pose to the same free people. Bill may be right that the communist leaders can’t be trusted. How- ever, there is the other side of the same coin. How many sensible peo- ple would trust North American leaders? We don’t have the chance to actually see if the com- munist leaders are ac- tually scamming their people or not. However, we get a birds eye view of our North American politicians sticking it to us every chance they get. They keep telling us this is a free country then proceed to take away our rights without ever a care as to how many get hurt. Bill also talks of inter- national terrorism. Just a question for Bill here. What’s worse — the ter- rorist who puts his life on the line to personally carry out his (or her) act of terrorism, or the per- son who supplies the weapons and explosives for this act? If like most decent citizens you agree that both are equally ' guilty, then you have just labelled Ronald Reagan an international terrorist for his actions against Nicaragua. His .supply- ing weapons and funds to the Contras in their at- tempt to overthrow the duly elected government in that country will prob- ably cause the loss of many innocent lives. Because of this, I believe he is as guilty as any Arab terrorist and should be subject to the same punishment he feels they deserve. Mr. Homburg seems to claim ‘‘peaceniks”’ are strange people. Is it so strange to want to ensure a safe and secure world ‘for future generations (not to mention a long and prosperous life right now)? He also states that the Soviet Union has a larger arsenal than the U.S. That’s nice, but so what? How many times would they have to blow the world up to decide who’s the winner? When this planet goes up for the first time, all the rest of the excess missiles will just sit around and rust. So ir- regardless who pushes the button first, we all end up dead. It doesn’t really matter whether it’s an American missile or one with a Russian trade mark on it, it’s going td kill us just the same. And Bill, remember we're right on the flight plan across for all those lovely nukes. After all, right B.C. is the. shortest distance to Russia from the U.S. (and the same in reverse). So lucky us will get all those lovely stray bombs that don’t make it to their target. And after the cruise missile fiasco, I’m sure there'll be lots falling upon our heads. In closing, Bill states that peace comes only with strength: I think that’s a crock. When I was just a young pup, there was this bully at school. He had us all pretty scared because he’d regularly beat us severely about the head and shoulders. For the longest time none of us would stand up to him. Finally a bigger and tougher dude came to the . school and put a thump- ing on this bully. Our Lotter The other side of the coin savior had finally come and rescued us, right? Wrong, he just took up where. his predecessor had-left off and things were as bad as ever. All: that was gained is that the beatings about the head and shoulders now hurt more than they had before. From strength, I believe the only thing that occurs for sure is that the tough dude will be feared and there’s always somebody tough- er out there who wants to knock the big boy off. That sounds like war to me! So I think, Mr. Hom- burg, your way of think- ing (and those who think like you) may be respon- sible for leading this planet to its destruction.
