Despite the fact ‘that
Americans discard more
than 200 million ‘tires every
year, less than four per cent
of the potentially valuable
raw: material is | being
recycled, says the president
of the Rubber Recycling
Division of the Navlonal
Association of Recycling.

Timothy. A. Baker said
that in addition to marring |
and ‘polluting the en-'
vironment, these tires and
other rubber waste could be
used to save energy.

He said the energy
required to produce a pound -
of virgin rubber is 15,700
