ITEM III

Re: Newsprint Recycling .

A proposal has been received from Community Paper Recycling Ltd.

to pay $25.00 per ton f.0.b. their plant in Burnaby for old
newsprint. This price would fluctuate according to the waste paper
market but Community Paper Recycling Ltd. are prepared to guarantee
a floor price of $14.00 per ton f.o.b. plant. It is estimated that
it will cost approximately $4.00 per ton to store the newsprint at
the Terra Nova Landfill site and transport it periodically to the
Burnaby plant.

It is suggested that if a newsprint pickup program is undertaken,
that the pickup be at the same time as the regular garbage pickup

and that the newsprint be placed in specially constructed racks on
our garbage packer trucks. It is estimated that it will cost i
approximately $2500 to construct newsprint racks on our three garbage
packer trucks and to advertise a newsprint pickup program. The

Committee recommends that a newsprint pickup program be tried commencing
Monday, June 13th, 1977 and that the costs and problems of the program

be monitored so that further reports and evaluations can be studied

during the remainder of this year. It would be intended that pxior

to June 13th, 1977 an extensive program of advertising and notification .
be carried out.

ITEM IV

Re: Vehicle and Equipment Purchases

Tenders have been called and received for the supply of various
vehicles and pieces of equipment approved in the 1977 Budget.

(a) Two Single Axle Dump Trucks

The Committee recommends the purchase of two 1977 Ford
LN-800 trucks at the quoted price of $25,418.28 tendered
by the low bidder, Rod McCallum Mercury Sales Ltd.

(b) Dump Truck Bodies

The Committee recommends the purchase of two Dump Truck
Bodies at the quoted price of $7704.00 tendered by the .
low bidder, Del Equipment Ltd.

(c) Compact Pickup Truck

The Committee recommends the purchase of a 1976 Courier
Pickup Truck at the quoted price of $3044.15 tendered by
the low bidder, Metro Moters Ltd.
